Social Day 2020

Social Day 2020

In October of 2019 the “Young forces to build community” project was launched, financed by the 8×1000 fund of the Waldensian Church which sees Amref as the leader and the Kirikù Cooperative and the Nats Per..Onlus Partners Association.

The project is reserved to 1000 boys and girls aged 11 to 19 years old living in the cities and provinces of Padua, Treviso, Pisa, and Milan. The youth involved, through a course of school and out-of-school workshops, were trained on youth leadership, active and global citizenship, and the importance of intercultural dialogue to create a more plural and interconnected citizenship with global dynamics. The pinnacle of the project was supposed to be the national Social Day event (in its 14th edition) scheduled for April 3 and 4: young people would have had the opportunity to experience being active citizens on the field, becoming real protagonists within their own community through the implementation of socially useful activities in the own territory (cleaning parks and green areas, organise street markets and entertainment for retirement homes, offer themselves as guides in the museums of one’s own city, rearrange scholastic spaces, etc.). The activities required the involvement of teachers, students, young migrants, associations, local authorities, and private entities all the while aiming to support, through a fundraiser, an Amref project aimed at guaranteeing access to clean water in Ethiopia, a Nats project for… Onlus on food safety in Colombia and a project of the Free Cooperative in Italy, projects chosen by the same children who took part in the training. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 emergency brought all educational activities to a stop at the end of February 2020 and the edition of Social Day has for now been postponed to a later date. It was still Social Day, this time experienced by taking a step back, but always in the spirit of solidarity.

With the start of the new school year, the training activities have started again, in the hope of experiencing Social Day 2021 and being able to get our hands dirty again…
