ROUTE – Restorative Outreach for Youth and Territorial Engagement

ROUTE is a European project inspired by the principles of restorative justice, aimed at strengthening and expanding restorative practices in Italy, Finland, and Ireland by promoting skills development, the exchange of different approaches, and dialogue among public institutions, professionals, and local communities. The project is based on the awareness that restorative practices can represent a complementary response to traditional criminal justice tools, placing responsibility, dialogue, and the rebuilding of relationships between the author of the offence, the victim, and the community at the centre. The project also promotes the belief that restorative practices can be applied beyond the legal field, including in educational settings, schools, and society more broadly. ROUTE seeks to contribute to this cultural change through training pathways, pilot activities, and opportunities for European exchange..

Project actions

General activities

ROUTE includes training sessions, exchanges of practices, round tables, and pilot activities focused on restorative justice and its development within the partner territories. The activities involve educators, social workers, public actors, and other professionals, as well as young people involved in restorative pathways and local stakeholders such as schools, municipalities, police, and civil society organisations. Through a training-of-trainers approach, the project aims to generate long-term impact and support the spread of shared competences and practices. One of the expected outcomes is also the development of training tools and an e-toolkit combining theory and practical experience.

Kirikù’s role

Kirikù is the lead partner of the project and coordinates the entire European partnership.
